• One word substitutes are the phrases that consist of a complete meaning and replaces a full sentence or a group of words
• This replacement is done without forming any kind of ambiguity.
• For example – Autobiography is a word used to replace the sentence “the story of a life of a man written by him".
• It makes the language beautiful and easily comprehendible.
• It also creates a good impact while writing and communicating.

Some examples are

1.  A deep study in a language by an individual – Philologist
2.  Life of a person written or scripted by someone else – Biography
3.  A sound that cannot be heard – Inaudible
4.  A partner in crime – Accomplice
5.  An individual who loves everyone is called as – Cosmopolitan

• Idioms are the phrases, words, or expressions that are mostly used in day to day conversations.
• They make the language colorful and hence are metaphorical
• More brief explanations can be given using idioms.

2. ‘See eye to eye’ – It means to agree with someone
3. ‘Once in a blue moon’ – a Frequently happening event
