Voices

The term which is used to tell whether the verb is active or passive is known as voice.
The verb is in passive voice in a passive sentence
The verb is in active voice in an active sentence.

If the action is performed by the subject then the verb is known to be in the active voice.
Example- The cat ate our food

(Cat is the subject and ate is the active verb. Subject did the verb)

If the action is done to the subject than the verb is known to be in the passive voice.
Example – Our food was eaten by the cat

(Our food is the subject and was eaten is the passive verb.)
