Tenses are used to show the time of action in a sentence.

Tenses have been categorised into 3 parts:-

Further, all 3 tenses have been divided into Indefinite, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous. Below are details of each:-

Present Indefinite:- It is used to describe: habitual actions things that happen always on fixed time, general statement, permanent situations.

Sub. + es/s + V₁ + Obj.

Present Continuous:- It is used for describing an action in progress and continuity of action while the time of speaking.

Sub. + is/am/are + V₄ + Obj.

Present Perfect:- It is used for describing an action that is completed just now.

Sub. + has/have + V₃ + Obj.

Present Perfect Continuous:- It is used for describing an action that started in the past and is continuing till now.

Sub. + has/have + been + V₄ + Obj.

Sub. + V₂ + Obj.

Past Continuous:- It is used to describe actions that were happening at some point of time in past.

Sub. + was/were + V₄ + Obj.

Sub. + had + V₃ + Obj.

Past Perfect Continuous:- It is used to describe actions that were continuing in the past for a given period of time.

Sub. + had been + V₄ + Obj.

Future Indefinite:- It is used to describe actions that are going to happen in future.

Sub. + will/shall + V₁ + Obj.

Future Continuous:- It is used to describe actions that will continue in the future.

Sub. + will/shall + be + V₄ + Obj.

Future Perfect:- It is used to describe actions that will be completed in future.

Sub. + will/shall + have + V₃ + Obj.

Future Perfect Continuous:- It is used to describe actions that have started and will continue to happen for a period of time in future.

Sub. + will/shall + have been + V₄ + Obj.
